My name is Emily and I am currently a Photojournalism major at Western Kentucky University. Its my first year in the program and I’m really excited to be a part of it! I hope to learn many new things and expand my knowledge of photography and journalism. I have been doing photography since junior high. Digital photography is a love of mine. When I got my first digital camera I went crazy. I loved taking pictures of my friends, family, and anything that was around me. I also did photography in High School and started learning how to take pictures with film. My high school provided a fun environment for students to learn the basics of photography and to experience the magic of a 20 station dark room. Film is an amazing way to start learning photography, it changed the way I looked at lighting and it taught me the basics that I really needed to know.
I got my first big camera in my sophomore year of high school. It was a Nikon D5000; It was beyond amazing. I’m not going to lie to you when I first got it I always used Auto everything. It wasn’t until I Interned for Cristi Owen Photography that I started to use the manual setting. She taught me basically everything I know about how to make the picture what I wanted it to look like. I also got into yearbook which is when my love for photojournalism was born. I LOVED going to school and sporting events and capturing the action.
This blog is going to be my photography and how I am growing to be the photographer I want to become.
